FUND OUR PRESCHOOLS
07 Jun 2018
The Turnbull Government’s Budget has failed Eden-Monaro’s preschool children.
The lack of financial support for preschools by the Turnbull Government means families and pre-school staff in Eden-Monaro can’t plan for the future.
With funding for four old preschool due to expire at the end of next year, 2,047 children in Eden-Monaro will be left in limbo.
There are around 350,000 children across Australia accessing preschool each year who rely on this funding.
There is no funding in the 2018-19 Budget for universal access to preschool and no further provisions for preschools.
That is why Labor is calling on the Turnbull Government to stop the uncertainty and commit long term funding for universal access to preschool.
Since the first agreement was signed by Labor in 2008, preschool enrolments have increased from 77 per cent to almost 93 per cent.
There is no doubt that access to four year old preschool gives our children the best head start for school and for life.
The government know this and yet won’t commit to long-term funding despite being in office since 2013.
Their priorities are all wrong. They would rather give an $80 billion handout to big business and the banks.
This is not good enough for the future of our children.
The Turnbull Government need to stop making excuses and commit to long term funding certainty for our preschools
